If you had to choose your favorite animated movie, Shrek would not be on the list. Actually, it wouldn’t even show up as a runner-up because it is not just an animated movie; it is three of the most popular animated movies of all time. And for those who don’t know what I am talking about, I am referring to Shrek 1, 2 and 3. The first Shrek film became famous for its giant cast of characters and creative storyline. The cast included actors such as Mike Myers (as the voice of Shrek), Eddie Murphy (as Donkey) and Cameron Diaz (as Princess Fiona). The film was so successful that sequels quickly followed. Shrek 2 included many of the first movie’s stars, but it also featured the voices of Antonio Banderas, John Cleese and Julie Andrews. Shrek 3 introduced new characters, such as Mike Myers’s wife, Robin Williams (named Puss in Boots) and Antonio Banderas (who played Zorro). But all three Shrek movies are now available for home viewing. And although they are all fun to watch, one of Shrek’s most interesting features is its connection to fairy tales. Both Shrek 1 and Shrek 2 are based on fairy tales. The first movie was based on the fairy tale of Puss in Boots; the second movie was based on the fairy tale of Cinderella. But what is really interesting about that connection is that both tales were written by the same man, Charles Perrault. You may not recognize his name, but you might recognize his story “Little Red Riding Hood” or “Sleeping Beauty.” Or perhaps even “Cinderella” or “Puss in Boots. ” In fact, Perrault wrote fifty different fairy tales. And he even wrote a guidebook for parents, titled “Tales or Mother Goose,” that explained why fairy tales were important to the development of children. In his guidebook, Perrault explained how society had become overly concerned with politics and religion. As a result, they began to lose sight of the things that were most important: innocent fun and adventure. That is why parents should tell their kids stories about monsters and witches and dragons—to help them avoid becoming boring adults!Shrek 1 was based on the fairy tale "Puss in Boots" by Charles Perrault. This is Perrault's original story: https://www.gutenberg.org/files/48685/48685-h/48685-h.htm Shrek 1 (also known as Shrek) is a computer-animated fantasy comedy film produced by DreamWorks Animation and distributed by Paramount Pictures, and the first installment in the Shrek series.
